H: Hosanna

Source

What does 'Hosanna' mean? I've often wondered about it. Especially when I remember the song:

"Sing Hosanna,
Sing Hosanna,
Sing Hosanna to the King of Kings!!"

[with each Sing Hosanna gliding to a higher pitch! :)]

So letter 'H' under A to Z Challenge gave me the perfect opportunity to know more about this! First things first- Google to the rescue!

Then I found out more!

'Hosanna' was shouted by crowds to welcome Jesus into Jerusalem and to deliver them from their sufferings. The Hebrew phrase “Hoshiah Na!" or "Save, now! We pray thee!" was used by people asking a king to help or save them. And Jesus Christ was indeed the King of Kings!!

Though in the 21st Century also we have Kings and Queens, yet they are very few. Certainly they are not regarded with the great grandeur of times past. They have mingled with the 'commoners' in a globalised world!

So, who can you sing 'Hosannas' to in the world of today?!

As this word has come to mean simply 'praises' in today's world, you can sing hosannas to literally anything/anyone you love. Movies, rock-stars, politicians, books, nations.....the list is endless!

Happy and humbled to know more about Hosanna!

Hip Hip Hurray!  :D

Hosannas on my way for writing this?! All ready to give them a Hero's Welcome! :)
